My Brother’s Keeper—Bring Another Mentor

Orange County Public Schools has opened a department dedicated to narrowing the achievement gap for underperforming minority students. The office is entitled the Minority Achievement Office (MAO), and it is committed to improving student’s efforts by the development of initiatives and projects that accelerate their learning.

Our students will come back to school on August 13th eager to learn. Many of them will need extra assistance in their quest for success; they will need a caring person to connect with them, and keep them interested in school. OCPS’s vision and mission is to be the top producer of successful students in the nation, leading our students to success with the support of families, teachers, and the community.

We are extremely excited this year to invite you, our mentoring team, to our initial My Brother Keeper (MBK),-Bring Another Mentor (BAM) Event, Thursday August 9, 2018, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. The location is the Ronald Blocker Educational Leadership Center, 445 W. Amelia Street, Orlando, Fl. 32801, and refreshments and appetizers will be provided.

Without a good education the lives of our young males of color and other at risk males are at stake, and in certain schools there is a learning and achievement gap. We are looking to kick off this year’s mentoring with excitement and passion, as we prepare to make the difference in the lives of our young males. Business Professionals, Parents, Community Leaders, College Students, and all Stakeholders are asked to join us, and learn how to make your mentoring experience organized and enjoyable.

Now is where You as a My Brother Keeper Mentor will help make the difference. You can provide the Mentoring, Understanding, Support, Character development Leadership, and Encouragement (MUSCLE) that so many of our males need. See the attached flyer for additional information, and forward the flyer to others who are interested in supporting our youth through mentoring. Thank you for your commitment and we will see you on August 9th.
